Our Final Fantasies Come True

The artist formally known as Final Fantasy (Owen Pallet) is back in Dublin on March 18th and will be doing his thing for a sold out crowd in Whelans. BUT never fear, lucky for all, the Canadian musical dreamboat has added an extra date on the 19th for any who didn’t snag a ticket the first time around. Dust off your violin bows and get ready!

Check, check, check, him doing his thing at the Foggy Notions Christmas party many moons ago.

It's Snow More

It was bound to happen and now it’s official. Those ambiguous ‘bath salts’, along with other assorted pills and powders, will no longer be available to buy legally from head shops from next month. You can actually hear the collective sighs of relief from those friendly neighborhood drug dealers as the pesky legal highs are days away from getting washed down the drain. We predict a not dissimilar ‘shake and vac’ product will be out to fill the void.

Ben & Jerry’s Goes Globally Nuts for Fairtrade

Ben & Jerry’s has announced its commitment to go fully Fairtrade across its entire global flavour portfolio. From Phish Food to Chocolate Fudge Brownie, all Ben & Jerry’s flavours in Ireland will be converted to Fairtrade-certified ingredients by the end of 2011 with all flavours globally being converted by the end of 2013. Ben & Jerry’s was the first ice cream company in the world to use Fairtrade-certified ingredients starting in 2005, and today it’s racing ahead as the first ice cream company to make such a significant commitment to Fairtrade across its global portfolio. Fairtrade Fortnight also kicks off this week with Fairtrade Ireland asking the nation to swap their usual stuff for Fairtrade stuff. Each swap will be proof that Ireland wants developing world producers to get a better deal and while you’re in the swapping mood check out www.benjerry.ie where there are loads of prizes on offer and all you have to do is post what your fair trade will be. Win!

Augmented Inc.

Augmented reality has crossed over to the body art world. ThinkAnApp in Argentina have developed software that recognizes barcodes on a curved surface (i.e - your arm). Imagine a summers day where we all have augmented reality sunglasses and instead of millions of tramp stamps we see a gallery of soaring eagles, dragons and majestic unicorns.

The Future?

This guys video kind of looks like Time Square invaded his kitchen. A film produced by Keiichi Matsuda it displays how augmented reality may recontextualise the functions of consumerism and architecture, and change in the way in which we operate within it.

Savage Valentines viral or truly madly awful…

In response to Premiership football fixtures this Sunday (Yes Valentine’s Day!) having the potential to cause some split loyalties and probably the odd domestic, kit suppliers Puma have come up with a valentines viral titled - Hardchorus – A bunch of hooligans chanting Savage Garden’s sop anthem Truly Madly Deeply

Chromeo and Daryl Hall

Two of our favourite artists are coming together this summer for a so far one off special. Chromeo and Daryl Hall have just announced that they will recreate their legendary Live From Daryl’s House performance for the lucky crowd at Bonnaroo in June. We have alerted all Irish concert promoters by means of subtle hints (read begging) so are currently living in a state of perpetual hope.

Check out their amazing version of ‘No Can Do’ here.

Are You Cy-rious?

Those Cyrus siblings are a controversial lot. Miley’s sister Noah, aged 8, has just designed her own range of clothes with her best pal, Emily Grace Reaves and it’s quite a shock. You might remember the outfits that Noah (right in some sort of S&M inspired get up) and Emily (left ) wore last Halloween. Check out this video to see the two young girls in mini-Lolita style Cyndi Lauper inspired get up that even Miley looks appalled by.

Good Stock

The Good Bits is offering a new concept in after work drinks, stock exchange style. The more a particular beverage is invested in, the higher the price will rise, causing other brands to drop. For example, as everyone is ordering H beer, after 20 mins, the cost of Y beer will decrease. If the bar is slow, the market will crash causing all drinks to drop to €2.50

The trading floor opens with a bang tonight, The Good Bits Bar, Dublin 1

These are the recorded transmissions of flight HGS110 on its Cork > Dublin route yesterday. Sources in air traffic control were unable to comment at the time of print but several eye witnesses also reported similar sightings.
Onlookers around the Patricks’ Street area also reported flashes of green light and the sounds of faint synthetic pop music.

Jack O’Connor (22, The Rise, Cork) had this to say “it came down very low and like hovered just above the opera house for a while, I could have sworn I heard some sweet tunes too… then Whoosh, it was gone”
Our image from amateur photographer Karl Karlson would seem to show a UFO shaped object in the vicinity on the day. It has been sent to the Irish Space Commission for tests.

Science analysts in nearby UCC also picked up minor disturbances in atmospheric pressure and brief tremors around the Patrick’s Street area.
This scene is reminiscent of similar sighting in December last year when Cork’s Opera House was bathed in an eerie green glow on the night of the 12th.

The Word Is On Your Lips, Say The Word…. ANI-MA-TION!

Hooray for the guys at Brown Bag Films who are Oscar nominated in the short film category for their brilliant ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’. Cartoon Saloon are also nominated for best animated feature film for ‘The Secret of Kells’. It’s an amazing achievement for both teams and here’s hoping they bring back the gongs in March.

The Grammys in a few words…

Beyonce needs a bigger trophy cabinet, Taylor Swift didn’t get interrupted by Kanye this time as he was too busy being “creative”, Elton John looked like he crawled out of a bin, Green Day go broadway, there was another guest appearance from that media whore iPad and a there was a Jacko tribute in wondrous 3D.

We love...LOVE

LOVE magazine, founded by super stylist Katie Grand, used a series of naked shots of the supers in the same pose to promote the third issue hitting the shelves on the 8th Feb (though there will be advanced copies around from tomorrow for anyone in the UK). We've been having fights in the office as to whether Kate, Naomi, Kristen, Amber, Natalia, Daria, Jeneil or Lara will go on the fridge to encourage our healthy drive into February.

Amazonian Naomi won.
